On the 10 year anniversary of his father’s suicide death, Blake Johnston set out to break the world record for the World’s Longest Surf to raise funds and awareness for mental health. On the shores of Cronulla Beach, thousands of punters cheer on the local surfer as he attempts to surf for 40 hours straight over 2 nights and 2 days with a target of catching 700 waves. The previous world record was 30 hours and 500 waves caught. The event is an opportunity for Blake, his four brothers and their mother to come together after 10 years of grief and disconnection from each other in the hope to repair their family bond. Blake’s empowering actions open up dialogue in amongst an entire community, and inspires a movement across Australia as people band together in support of each other’s traumas. The documentary is part personal journey, part community conversation and part educational with vulnerable stories and practical tools shared by impacted individuals, survivors and mental health experts.
